Meet Ja (pronounced Jay)
A little bit more about the candidate
Ja was born in Bountiful Utah and grew up in Utah County, where he graduated from Pleasant Grove High School. He attended Utah State University(USU) and graduated with a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture and Environmental Planning.
Ja grew up working as a landscaper doing both residential and commercial maintenance and new construction. He has acquired many skills over the years and has been known to do some handyman jobs on the side from time to time.
Ja and his wife Donna met while attending USU and have lived in Layton for the past 20 years. They have enjoyed the opportunities Layton City has provided for them and their four children.
Ja worked for Layton City as the Park Planner for 10 years. That experience uniquely qualifies Ja and gives him an advantage over other candidates, as he understands our parks and trails master plan, city master plan and city management. He has an understanding and appreciation for the issues facing the city as it grows and develops. Ja was involved in the process of meeting with citizens, developers and city staff, and has a wonderful working relationship with all parties.
Ja has been involved in the community as a scout leader and little league baseball coach. Ja is an avid outdoorsman which led him to become a volunteer Hunter Education Instructor. Over the past 15 years he has shared his love of the outdoors with thousands of students throughout the community. This love of the outdoors also led to his current position with the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources.
Working with thousands of people has helped Ja understand there are many sides and concerns to each issue. If we are willing to find creative ways to work together we can find common ground and resolve most issues.
